A home-grown performance hero – the MINI JCW Challenge
A small team of MINI engineers working in their own time has created the MINI John Cooper Works Challenge. Inspired by the MINI Challenge racing car and comprising key components developed with top UK suppliers to the racing world, like Nitron, Mintex, Quaife and Team Dynamics, the MINI John Cooper Works Challenge is optimised for the race track and ready for the road.
The MINI engineers upgraded the JCW Hatch, making it even more performance orientated and making the most of the TwinPower Turbo 2-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 231hp and 320Nm of torque, with its 0-62mph time of only 6.3 seconds and top speed of 153mph. The hand-built Nitron suspension system comes with pre-sets for the road and for the track, although you can choose any of numerous settings to set it to your own preference. Traction improvements come courtesy of the Quaife automatic torque biasing limited slip differential, assisting braking and taking power off either of the two front wheels, if they start to spin during acceleration. Additionally, grip is assisted by the choice of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres mounted on lightweight Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 rims. The brakes have also been uprated with the inclusion of 330mm front discs, four-pot Brembo-developed calipers and special Mintex brake pads. With its MINI JCW Pro Aerokit and exhaust, White Silver exterior finish and carbon black interior with Piano Black trim, the MINI John Cooper Works Challenge is available to order now. 100 of these extraordinarily desirable cars will be produced, so don’t wait if you want to be sure of yours.
