The record-breaking, fuel-saving, emission-reducing, new Peugeot 208
Peugeot 208 means compact and fun to drive, but it also means efficient and economical, especially with the 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 S&S engine and 5-speed manual gearbox.
The official figures for this engine are fuel consumption of up to 94.2mpg combined and CO2 emissions of only 79g/km, so not only is there no road tax to pay, but this is also the lowest figure for CO2 emissions for any non-hybrid. In this special test at the Peugeot test circuit at Belchamp in France, supervised by UTAC, a number of drivers drove a standard production 208 for 38 hours and covered 1,337.19 miles. Only just over nine gallons of fuel were used, resulting in a record-breaking 141.2mpg!
This ‘Very Low Fuel Consumption’ production version of the 208 benefits from ultra-low rolling resistance Michelin Energy Saver+ tyres and an aerodynamic rear spoiler. You can see the video of this impressive test here.
