Transporter’s success due to quality, innovation and driveability
A big VW win at the VansA2Z Van of the Year Awards this year for its sixth-generation Transporter which took the Best Small Panel Van award and then went on to take the overall Van of the Year 2016 award. Also doing well in the VansA2Z awards was the VW Caddy in the Best Light Van category.
So what makes the Transporter a winner? The judges commented on the Transporter’s comprehensive safety systems, excellent build quality, impressive driveability and efficient range of engines with the availability as standard of BlueMotion Technology. VansA2Z editor said of the Transporter: “It rides and handles well, feels well-planted on the road and offers a smooth gearchange from ’boxes that have been well-matched to engines that deliver plenty of torque in all the right places. All in all it's a package that few, if any, of its rivals in this sector can beat.”
The VW Caddy was commended in the Best Light Van category and also drove away with the Editor’s Choice Award for its DSG gearbox. VansA2Z enthused: “Volkswagen's semi-automatic DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) is one of the best transmissions ever to be installed in a light commercial and it is extraordinarily well-matched to the latest Caddy.” The Caddy is easy to drive around town or on the open road and brings a true car feel to the light commercial sector.
